Dry Skin problem?

Dry Skin...female, 50 yrs especially on my legs has become very dry, itchy around the ankles and resembles a dried up river bed. I know the water in my area is very limey and Im taking lots of showers during the hottest months, but I do use a scrub and rinse in olive oil and moisturise regularly, but wonder if there is a pill that makes skin moist.
Dry Skin problem?
Attacking anyone regardless of age, DRY SKIN problems respond well to self-care measures, such as using moisturizers and avoiding long, hot showers and baths. If you have very dry and scaly skin, your doctor may recommend you use an all-natural cream that contains natural oils that gives soothing and glowing results.

In a more serious skin disease, such as ichthyosis or psoriasis, your doctor may prescribe prescription creams and ointments or other treatments in addition to home care.

Dry skin leads to dermatitis, which causes red, itchy skin. In these cases, treatment may include lotions with natural-oil ingredients. If your skin cracks open, your doctor may prescribe wet dressings with mildly astringent properties to contract your skin and reduce secretions and prevent infection.

go see a doctor :)
Reply:I think if you shower too often it will actually dry out your skin more. Do not use any soap or harsh scrubs as they will only make the problem worse. Try using something like Alpha Keri Oil or similar to wash with. Good old sorbolene or vitamin e cream are just as good, if not better than the more espensive creams. If all else fails, visit your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Reply:You should probably see a dermatologist as this sounds a lot like Eczema which acts up at certain times of the year. For me its the change of seasons that does it . My Doc. has me using Dove soap only and believe it or not the more warm showers you take the dryer your skin will become. I also use two lotions , Cetaphil and CeraVe both of which can be found at Walgreen's and CVS but not Walmart .

I think I might be right but go see your doctor and have him or her give you a referral to go see a dermatologist.

Good Luck as I know dry itchy skin especially around the ankles can be maddening.

Reply:your dry skin will respond well to an all natural skin care moisturizer for it is safe and effective in keeping the skin moist all day.

try to avoid long baths for that can rob moisture out of your skin. ask your dermatologist about good skin care treatments.

healthy habits can also help improve the look and how your skin feels from inside and out. try to refrain from smoking and alcohol for they do not only cause the skin to become dry but also they can promote premature skin aging.
